New frontiers are being challenged all the time in sport and a new race has been created for the surf ski fraternity in the area.
The Pam Golding St Francis-2-JBay Downwind Surfski Challenge is set for Saturday August 21 at 14:00. This event forms part of the Winter Surf Ski Mini Series.
This 20km event will start at the St Francis Bay main beach, from where a short 6km distance can be tackled by novice paddlers. The NSRI will be present and a few dedicated jetski’s will follow the paddlers all the way. Life jackets, flares and leashes are compulsory, and a water proof cell phone is advisable.
Registration starts at 13:00 at the main beach and you can enter either in the singles category or doubles. If the wind is stronger than 40 knots competitors will then paddle to Shark Point and back.
The prize giving will be at the finish line on the Jeffreys Bay main beach. The entry fee is R40, and for more information and entry forms, contact Richard Arderne on 083 284 0168.
