The wind forecast for today is Easterly, which will give the ground crews the opportunity to start with some “smoulder” control in the Cape St Francis/St Francis Bay area.
Unfortunately it means that flare ups will occur towards Mostertshoek, Rebelsrus and Oyster Bay. These residents should prepare for some smoke blowing their way. The good news is that the 2 big Oryx helicopters will be here to assist.
The Cape St Francis Civic Association has consulted with an expert in Fynbos fires and he made it clear that ground crews need to be deployed to address the hot spots.
Any strong wind can cause flares ups in the next few days. As a ” rule of thumb” they would only rest easy after some drenching rain.
To this end the Association will deploy ground crews to assist with hot spot handling.
According to Eskom, the fire burning behind the Links have been brought under control and will be monitored continuously.
Ground crews along with some fire fighters will be deployed at the point where the fire was contained on Saturday to prevent the fire from spreading in a westerly direction.
