Internationally renowned big wave chargers Chris Bertish and Grant Baker have been honoured with a coveted invitation to compete in the 2010/11 Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau the world’s most prestigious and longest running big wave surfing event.

Bertish scored a sensational victory in the Mavericks contest in California in February and joins a select 28 man field in The Eddie, which will be held on one day, between 1 December 2010 and  28February 2011, when waves exceed the 20 foot (seven meters) minimum threshold at Waimea Bay in Hawaii.

“Wow, The Eddie…. What can I say” Bertish exclaimed on hearing of his invite. “It’s been such a phenomenal year for me, I feel really fortunate that so much has come my way, but the Eddie invite is really the icing on the cake!”

“I remember watching a video of Brock Little getting barrelled in The Eddie years ago and thinking ‘One day, one day I’m going to do that – I’m going to surf in the Eddie’. And here we are 20 years later… I guess it just shows the power of dreams and if you really want something bad enough, if you believe it, anything is possible! I’m just beyond stoked right now.”
