Police suspect Arson in Billabong fire

The Jeffreys Bay Police suspect that the fire that destroyed the Billabong warehouse was started deliberately.

Police spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli, said they have now opened an arson docket.

“With regards to the outcomes of our preliminary investigation which suggest that there was foul play so the case has now been changed from an inquiry into a case of arson,” he said.

The Fire Departments from Jeffreys Bay and Humansdorp fought the fire and managed to save the shops adjoining the Billabong warehouse.

No staff members were injured during fire and the local company is already sourcing additional stock from Billabong International.

All the shops in the Billabong Village are still operational, including Country Feeling, InStep Leather, the Factory Shop and the Concept Store.

Jeffreys Bay is gearing up for the annual JBay Winterfest, which starts next week.
