Johannesburg – Police have confirmed that two people suspected to have gunned down two police officers in Dobsonville on Wednesday, have been shot and killed.
According to the SA Police Service’s Twitter account, the pair was killed during a shoot-out with police on Thursday. An R5 rifle was also recovered on the scene.
The shooting took place on the N3 highway near the De Hoek toll plaza near Heidelberg.
The two officers were killed on Wednesday when a gang travelling in one red and one white Volkswagen GTI with North West number plates chased them, eventually shooting them dead in Dobsonville, Extension 2.
The 50-year-old warrant officer and the 40-year-old constable, who were travelling in an unmarked white Figo, were stationed at the Moroka police station.
They were members of the members of the family violence, child protection and sexual offences investigations unit.
During the chase, the cops crashed into a civilian driving a white Mercedes Benz and the gang jumped out their vehicles, opening fire on them.
