Holiday-makers will be spoilt for choice this festive season.
Kouga Executive Mayor Elza van Lingen says a host of activities have already been approved for the upcoming holiday season.
“The bulk of the applications were made for Jeffreys Bay and St Francis Bay, as these are the traditional crowd-pullers over the festive season,” she said.
“There will, however, be a Christmas picnic at the Yellowwoods in Hankey on December 25 while the younger set can look forward to amusement rides at Hankey Primary School on November 25 and 26.”
The amusement rides are also on the cards for Jeffreys Bay and will be stationed at the main beachfront from November 30 to January 7.
“There will also be pony rides for children at Kabeljous beach from December 5 to January 20, while the KFC Kids vs Proteas Mini Cricket Tour will be making a stop at JBay’s main beachfront on December 21,” the Mayor says.
Top music acts will be in action at Jolly Dolphin for the annual JBay Matric Rage from December 2 to 10 and at J-Bay Rocks, also at Jolly Dolphin, from December 26 to 31.
Billy’s Beach, also featuring top acts, will return to St Francis Bay from December 26 to 31 and on January 2.
Sports lovers can enter a touch rugby tournament at the Jeffreys Bay main beachfront on December 6 to 20.
The popular game will also form part of the Kouga Sport Council’s Summer Beach Sports series at the main beachfront on December 26.
Also on the cards are beach volleyball on December 27, beach soccer on December 28, beach netball on December 29 and basketball on December 30.
One of the most popular events on the December holiday programme is the annual Marina Mile Marina Mile, which will take place on December 30 in the salt water canals of Marina Martinique.
Swimmers can choose to swim the Double Mile or the Marina Mile. There will also be a 400m swim on offer for less experienced open-water swimmers as well as a bank to bank for little swimmers.
Three runs have thus far been approved for the season. The first JBay to PE Coastal Run will take place on December 11, starting at Kabeljous.
The Drommedaris Holiday Run has been scheduled for December 17 and the Woodlands 15km Road Race will take place at Mentoorskraal on January 7.
Adrenaline junkies can experience the thrill of tandem skydiving at the Paradise Beach Airfield from December 10 to January 5.
“There will also be special Christmas events taking place at the St Francis Village Green,” the Mayor says.
The Christmas programme will include a Carol and Nativity Play on December 20 and 23, as well as performances by the St Francis Lighthouse Choir on December 22 and January 4.
The St Francis Village Green will be the place for last-minute Christmas shopping on December 24 when the St Francis Village Market takes place. A special new year’s edition of the market is scheduled for January 7 at the same venue.
Other markets include the Oyster Bay Residents Association and NSRI Christmas Market and Family Fun Day, set to take place at Brander Street in Oyster Bay on December 21.
