Olympic swimmers Prinsloo and Roux sign up with Speedo

Speedo has signed a kit sponsorship with Olympic open water swimming hopefuls Troy Prinsloo and Jessica Roux, both expected to be included in the SA team to London to be announced soon.

Prinsloo and Roux recently beat rivals Chad Ho and Natalie du Toit at the recent Olympic qualifiers in Portugal, placing them in pole positions for inclusion in the 2012 squad to London.

Jessica Roux and Troy Prinsloo have qualified for the 10 K marathon swim at the London Olympics.

Prinsloo ended fifth overall among an international field in Setubal, Portugal, in the 10km swim while Roux pipped du Toit in the 10km to finish in 31st position – the top South African in the field. Roux said she had lost count of her laps during the race and is eyeing an improved performance in London.

Speedo SA has identified the two as rising stars in SA swimming and this week signed a kit sponsorship with both. In terms of the agreement, Speedo will provide them with all the relevant swimming and swimming related apparel they require over the next year.

Prinsloo said he was honoured to be sponsored by Speedo: “It’s a dream come true and I look forward to working with Speedo, the number one swimwear brand in the world.”

Roux added: “It’s amazing. I think the training equipment and all the other gear is going to help so much. It’s one less thing to worry about knowing you’re kitted out in the best.”

Speedo SA brand president Stuart Hopwood said it was a great honour to support the two.
“They’ve proved themselves as the best in their respective disciplines and we look forward to seeing them included in the SA squad to London. “
