Residents are reminded that the Comment Period for the review of the Revised Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR)  regarding the proposed development of a Nuclear Power Station at Thyspunt closes on 07 August 2011.

Please  ensure that all comments on the report reaches the GIBB Nuclear-1 Public Participation office by no later than this date.

The local and international surf community once again demonstrated their opposition to Thyspunt during the Billabong Pro in Jeffreys Bay when over 1 000 people signed the Supertubes Surfing Foundation’s petition to stop the Nuke at Oyster Bay.

Each yellow flag was a signed objection against Thyspunt.

The primary objections are that the Impact Studies seem to make light of environmental and social concerns such as recent flooding that saw the Sand River bridge being washed away.

Eskom maintains that the 2007 floods were a once in 200 year occurrence, yet barely four years later, we have experienced even worse flooding.

The social impact of thousands upon thousands of job seekers entering the Kouga and placing an already creaking infrastructure under more pressure is also glossed over by Eskom.
