The monthly mountain bike night ride and trail run at Port St Francis is set for this Saturday 28 May with new start times for the winter.
You can take this event seriously and compete against the best, or join the “bike bokkies” at the back and have loads of fun – the difference between the “bikers and the bokkies” is (only) 34 minutes!
Last month’s winner Tyrone Kindness averaged 17minutes per lap, while the “bokkies” needed 51minutes to make it back to the Port. Tyrone went on and finished 4 laps in the allowed 60 minutes, while the “bokkies” decided to stick to one lap for the night!
The event starts with a 5km trail run at 15:30, which can also be walked in a little more than 51minutes. It is a great opportunity to compete against yourself in a safe environment – enjoying the beauty of St Francis with some fellow sportsmen.
The day ride starts at 16:30, an ideal opportunity to make sure of the route for the night ride, or as an introduction to the sport. You have 60 minutes to finish one lap. The entry fee allows you to compete in all three events.
The main event of the day is the Custom Bikes Night Ride that starts at 18:00. The same 5km circuit route includes a single and a jeep track, a grassy section, a bit of tar and the wooden walkway back to the finish line.
The first runner home is the winner. The winner of the cycle event is the cyclist who completes the most laps within the hour. Helmets and headlamps are compulsory. The first three positions in the under 12, under 17 and open category, both male and female, will receive St Francis Sport medals.
The entry fee is R40 for all students and R60 per adult and participants can do all three events. Family entries (dad, mom and children) get the fourth entry free. Registration will starts at 14:30 on Squid Square.
Port St Francis and surroundings lend itself for a very exciting event for both participant and spectator. For more information, contact Eric Stewart on 082 394 7363.
