A number of reports have been received of attempts to steal cars in Wavecrest recently.
The thieves are targeting vehicles that are parked outside at night.
There was even a theft of a battery from a vehicle that the thieves could not steal.
The annual crime stats revealed that there had been a drop in theft of motor vehicles from 46 cases to 26 cases but it now appears that the crime is yet again on the increase.
Theft of motor vehicles peaked in 2005/6 when 88 cars where stolen in Jeffreys Bay.
The sporadic nature of incidents seem to indicate that it is a syndicate at work; probably from out of town.
Residents are urged to secure their vehicles at night and to make sure the car alarms are activated if parked outside.
