Mmusi Maimane elected as DA’s Gauteng Premier Candidate

MmusiThe Democratic Alliance (DA) has announce that Mmusi Maimane has been elected as the DA’s Premier candidate for Gauteng for the 2014 national elections.

Mmusi Maimane was born and raised in Dobsonville, Soweto, near Johannesburg. He is currently a Deputy Federal Chairperson of the Democratic Alliance and the DA’s National Spokesperson.
He has completed a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, a Masters Degree in Theology and a Masters Degree in Public and Development Management from Wits University. Mmusi is married to Natalie and has two children – 2 years old Kgalaletso and 5 months old Kgosi.
Before entering politics, Mmusi lectured at the GIBS business institute and managed his own consultancy firm – consulting for a variety of large South African companies on diversity management, change management and generational differences.

Mmusi made his entry into politics when he was nominated as the Democratic Alliance Mayoral Candidate in the City of Johannesburg during the 2011 local government elections.
He was instrumental in increasing the DA’s support levels from roughly 20% to 35% in Johannesburg during the 2011 elections.
In November 2012, Mmusi was elected as one of three of the DA’s three Deputy Federal Chairpersons at the DA’s 2012 Federal Congress. He received the most votes of the nine candidates running for the positions.

Mmusi speaks six languages -English, Xhosa, Zulu, Sesotho, Setswana, Sephedi.
