The Democratic Alliance, the official opposition party in the Kouga Council is hosting a meeting today where they will introduce their Mayoral candidate for the 2016 election, as well as the Councillors who will be contesting in the various wards in Jeffreys Bay.
The DA narrowly lost the 2011 election, when just over 1 000 votes went to minority parties, effectively giving the ANC control over the Kouga Council for another five years.
The public meeting will be held in the Marina Martinique Hall and starts at 12 PM.
DA Mayoral candidate Elza Van Lingen will be attending the meeting as will Desiree Van Der Walt, the DA’s Shadow Minister of Education, who will be the guest speaker at the event.
“We invite the community of Jeffreys Bay to come and join us at the public meeting so we can introduce our team who we are confident will turn Kouga around after the election on 3 August,” said Van Lingen.
At present, the Kouga Council is controlled by the ANC with 15 seats to the DA’s 14. No minority party came close to securing a seat, a trend that is set to continue at the 2016 election.
