Light winds and 21 C water greeted swimmers from all over the Eastern Cape who descended upon Marina Martinique for the first of six open water swim events that will be held in Jeffreys Bay over the summer.
Haydn Holmes (Cape St Francis) and Amika de Jager were the only two entrants in the 10 Km event and both swam well to finish SA national qualifying times of 2 hours 20 minutes.

In the 3 km swim, Seth de Swart finished second in the 16-18 age group, with Brenton Williams finishing third in his age group, while swimming the butterfly stroke the entire distance.
Jeffreys Bay swimmers dominated the 1 km swim with Danre du Preez winning the event, followed by MC Strydom, who came second.
Special mention must be made of Noah de Swart (10 yrs) who finished in 5th position in the competitive u/13 age group.
Wally Marais (JBay) came third in his age group in his first swim of the season.
Anne de Swart came third in her age group in the 1 km event, while the two youngest swimmers in the race, Abriella Bredell (9yrs) and Issataya Bredell (8yrs) both gave a good account of themselves.
Issataya was swimming the 1 km distance for the first time ever in her swimming career.
