Kite surfers rescued in Cape Town

The NSRI received at least 40 phone calls from concerned residents reporting 3 kite-surfers drifting, without wind to pick up their sails, off-shore of Bloubergstrand, after wind conditions had suddenly subsided while they were kite-surfing.

“An adult male kite-boarder was found off-shore of Onse Huisie, he was instructed to deflate his kite while our rescue craft responded to the next casualty, an adult male, a mile West of Doodles Restaurant, Tableview.

He was also instructed to deflate his kite while our sea rescue craft responded to the third kite-boarder, off-shore of Dolphin Beach.

Here the adult female had abandoned her kite and she had swum ashore safely and her kite was recovered by NSRI before our sea rescue craft returned to rescue the two males in succession:, said Rhine Barnes, NSRI Melkbosstrand station commander.

“All of their kites were recovered, the two men were brought ashore aboard our sea rescue craft and no one was injured.

“As we enter the summer season NSRI urge sea users to exercise caution around the coast.” added Barnes
