Kirkwood man sentenced to six life terms

A 23 year old Kirkwood man, Morne Darries, has been sentenced to six life terms for various serious offences.

Grahamstown High Court judge, Clive Plaskett convicted Darries on three counts of murder, four counts of rape, one count of attempted rape, one count of attempting to commit a sexual act with a corpse.

He was also convicted for theft and defeating the ends of justice.

Darries crime spree began in May 2007, when he was only 16-years-old and came to an end in 2013 at the age of 23, when he was arrested.

Uitenhage Cluster Commander, Brigadier Phillip Salukazana commended D/WO Morne van Tonder for his dedication in investigating these cases and for gathering the evidence that led to the successful prosecution of the accused.
