Coming into the J’ Bay Billabong Pro and the two best surfers in the world are sitting in 1st and 2nd position on the WCT tour. Kelly Slater is leading the way but South Africa’s Jordy Smith is chasing him all the way. A possible meeting in the final of the Billabong Pro at Supertubes is what surfers all around the world want to see.

And it could be an epic final. Kelly Slater is after his 10th world title after winning his first one way back in 1992. Jordy is surfing phenomenally well and will be hungry for a win in South Africa, in front of his friends and family.

However, it will not be easy sailing for any surfer to make the final of the Billabong Pro in Jeffreys Bay. Mick Fanning is an old campaigner at Supertubes and is the current World Champion who is lying 4th in the world rankings at present. Joel Parkinson can also never be written off in one of the stops on the world tour that he says he really enjoys and he is the current title holder after winning the event in 2009.

South Africans will be confident that 2010 is their year. Not since Greg Emslie  came close in 2004 when he narrowly lost to Sunny Garcia in the Quarter Finals and in 2002 and 2009 when Sean Holmes also made the quarters, has a South African surfer looked so on top of his game as Jordy does right now.

The footage of Jordy and Slater taken at Lower Trestles confirms that Jordy is defining new boundaries in pro surfing circles. Slater is always a stand out and draws clean powerful lines, yet Jordy is taking the aerial route to new heights.

Yet, anything can happen in a surf contest. All that can be said right now is that the 2010 Billabong Pro is lining up to be one of the best ever. Be sure though, Jordy Smith will have the support from the beach this year,
