WHAT started as a few friends connecting the dots in 2013, is now set to become a pre-Christmas adventure to be remembered: The Dolphin Challenge!
The Dolphin Challenge, previously known as JBay2PE, will kick off at Kabeljous River in Jeffreys Bay at 06:00 on December 11.
The challenge will see runners, both individuals and relay teams, make their way along the beach to Maitlands River Mouth in Nelson Mandela Bay.
This includes the popular swim through the Gamtoos River where assistance will be provided by EC Coastal Water Rescue and residents with a boat.
Runners will then make their way up to Gamtoos Village for a check in and swap out for the relay teams. Refreshments will be available here.
The relay event, a new addition to the event, enables beginners to be part of the challenge and see stretches of coastline hardly ever visited.
After the Gamtoos checkpoint, runners will be directed through the dunes to the beach where they will resume the beachfront run through the Van Stadens Resort area (another relay swap out) and on to Maitlands River Mouth for the finish.
In addition to the run, there will be a mountain bike event starting and finishing at Maitlands River Mouth. The course is out and back along the beach to collect a token at the Gamtoos Village checkpoint.
The event is litter-free in the spirit of the #RunClean campaign sweeping athletic events. Anyone caught littering will be automatically disqualified.
Online entries can be done at www.dolphinchallenge.co.za. Participants are required to carry water and nutrition as needed.
Various prizes and lucky draws will be up for grabs. For more information, contact Steven at 076 027 5280 or firstname.lastname@example.org
