Gunmen storm university in Kenya

Elite units from the Kenyan Police and Defence Force are engaged in a running battle with armed militia who attacked the Garissa University at 5:30 am this morning.

The Inspector General of Police in Kenya, Joseph Boinnet has confirmed the attack.

‘Armed attackers shot at the guards manning the gate to the university and are inside the hostels. we are busy flushing them out and I urge Kenyans to remain calm,” said Boinnet.

At least eight people have been killed and many more have been injured in the attack.

Al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for the attack saying that they separated muslims from non muslims and that their fighters are still inside the compound. They are the same militant group that attacked a hotel in Somalia recently
