His music has a suble power and grace all of it’s own. Though his technical prowess is bewildering Guy Buttery immerses himself entirely into the soul of his guitar, coaxing sonic shapes and forms of such startling originality from it that his instrument acts as a kind of lightning conductor for the sound of another realm.
So describes Mail and Guardian the music of surfer and Durban North Coast local Guy Buttery who will be playing at Potters Place in Jeffreys Bay tonight.
Guy, who takes his inspiration from the hills and valley of Kwa Zulu Natal while walking along ancient Zulu footpaths is an avid surfer who has toured the world with his guitar.
The Doors, Bob Dylan Led Zepplin and Bob Marley were early influences for Guy when he was growing up and they left an impression of rock and folk harmonies that are with him to this day.
Guy will be performing at Potters Place tonight at 7.30 Pm. Tickets cost R 50 and tables can be booked by phoning Carla at 042 293 2500
