Provincial Police Commissioners say the influx of foreigners into South Africa, is a significant contributor in the country’s crime statistics. They were presenting crime statistics to Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Police.
According to the commissioners, a lot of crime involves foreign nationals, either as victims of a crime, or they are involved in crime themselves.
In the Free State, police attribute the increase in contact crime in the Bloemspruit area to this influx of foreigners. In the Western Cape, around 8 000 foreigners enter the province each month.
There are many concerns in Jeffreys Bay that foreigners are the main drug dealers in the town and sporadic outbreaks of violence towards foreigners have occured.
