Farmer attacked in Kirkwood

A farmer and his wife were injured in a struggle with a suspected robber on their farm near Kirkwood during the weekend.

The 18-year-old man apparently broke into the farmer’s house through a window around 9pm on Saturday.

Police Warrant Officer Gerda Swart says the man confronted the 81-year-old farmer in the passage and stabbed him in the arm.

The farmer called his wife for assistance and the suspect was shot in the left arm.

The farmer apprehended his attacker and called the police. Both he and the attacker received medical treatment.

The teenager was charged with housebreaking with intent to rob and will appear in the Kirkwood Magistrate’s Court soon.
