Extensive flooding in the Garden Route

Reports of wide spread flooding have been received from towns along the Garden Route.

This is the updated situation report:

Bitou:
–    Road closed along Piesang Valley
–    Main road to Wittedrift has been closed.
–    Old Keurbooms Road closed due to flooding debris
–    NSRI assisted with the evacuation of a house in Piesang Valley

Knysna:

No evacuations reported.
–    A Mud / Rock Slide has occurred near the White Bride as you enter Knysna (Cleaning up  operations has already started)
–    The gravel road between Rheenedal and Karatara has be closed due to flooding.
–    The gravel road between Rheenedal and Goudveldt   has be closed due to flooding.
–    The road Buffels Bay has only one lane open due to flooding
–    The road to Karatara at the Karawater bridge is closed.

George:

No evacuations or road closures reported.
–    Two trees were blown down
–    The roof of a house in Pacaltsdorp were partially blown off by strong winds.
–    No new incidents reported

Mossel Bay:

No evacuations or road closures reported.
–    A report was received by Mr John Roberts from Rooi Heuwil farm that the Klein Heuwil River is in flood (relevant authorities has been notified and the Klein Brak River Flooding Contingency plan has been activated)
–    The Kouma bridge near Ruitersbos has been closed
–    Perdekop gravel road near Ruitersbos has been closed
–    Low water bridge near Botelierskop has been closed
–    Geelbekvlei gravel road near Brandwag has been closed
–    Due to the fact that the river mouth is open no flooding occurred in Klein Brak River
–    No new incidents reported

Oudtshoorn:

No evacuations reported.
–    The N12 at Meirings Poort has been closed due to flooding. (A truck got trapped at the second bridge from the De Rust Side but the driver left the truck and fled to safety)
–    A report was received of water crossing the road just outside Oudtshoorn on the road between Oudtshoorn and the Cango Caves.
–    The help of SANDF was called in to assist with a breakdown to do vehicle recovery on the truck in Meirings Poort
–    No new incidents reported.

Kannaland:

No incidents, evacuations or road closures reported.
–    No new incidents reported.
Hessequa: No incidents, evacuations or road closures reported.
–    No new incidents reported.
