Marina Martinique will host the Metsi Eastern Province Open Water Swim Champs this Sunday, with great weather being predicted for the event.
Swimmers will have a choice of swimming the gruelling 10 km event, or choose between a 5 km, 3 km, 1 km, 500m as well as a bank to bank swim for the U/10 youngsters.
Entries are open at www.swimmingplus.com and swimmers will save some cash by registering beforehand and avoiding the late entry penalty.
“All open water swimming can take part in the EP Champs and do not have to registered swimmers”, explained event organiser Brenton Williams.
“While only registered swimmers will be recorded for national qualifying times, the events are open to everyone.
The event is sponsored by Metsi Water Solutions.
The water temperature is expected to be between 24 – 26 C, while the weather prediction is a hot sunny day with very little wind, so we expecting a great turnout of swimmers and spectators on Sunday,” added Williams.
Swimmers can also starting gearing themselves up for a new extreme swim in the Eastern Cape – a 12 miles in 12 hours swim that will test the fitness, endurance and mental fortitude of the athletes.
Forming part of the Xtreme Swim Series, Jeffreys Bay will be hosting the Eastern Cape leg of the series.
Swimmers can chose to attempt all 12 miles, every alternate mile, do it in a team of two people or simply attempt as many miles as possible before fatigue kicks in.
The JBay swimmers train at Marina Martinique every Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 5:45 pm from Infood Blu and all are welcome to join them.
