Entries have opened for the 2010 Steers Marina Mile swim which will take place at Marina Martinique on 22 & 23 December. For the first time in the history of the Mile, a dedicated website has been set up to handle online entries and to provide information about the event.

Steers Jeffreys Bay has come on board as the title sponsor for the event and the first 100 entrants will all receive  2010 Steers Marina Mile swim caps and T-shirts.

The Marina Mile has been in existence since the early 1990’s but was resurrected in 2002 by Yvonne Lentinello and Brenton Williams, both of whom enjoy a long association with Marina Martinique.

From humble beginnings, the Mile has been expanded into a two day open water sports festival. The opening day will see one of the most extreme swims ever take place.  A marathon 25 K swim through the canals will see the participants swim for most of the day in an attempt just to complete the swim. Added to this extreme swim will be a 1o K event, which is also a first for the Marina Mile.

The 23 December will kick off with a 5K and a 3K swim before the main events, the Women’s and Men’s Mile hit the water. Jessica Roux, the defending Women’s Champ has just been selected to the South African National Open Water Team that is competing in Morocco and will be on form to defend her title.

Entries have opened and can be done online at Marina Mile
