The first J’Bay Boardriders contest of 2012 was held at Lower Point over the weekend, with an offshore wind picking up in the afternoon to ensure good surf for the local surfers.

Dylan Lightfoot is a deserved winner of the "Surfer of the Year" award.

The event only finished at 6 pm with a spectacular display of surfing from the U/20 boys – Dylan Lightfoot, Steven Sawyer (both Springbok surfers) taking on Tobias Schroeder who surfs for Germany, and a new comer to the club, Gerco Kruit.

The girls surfed hard with Emma Smith leading the charge, but old rivals Gina Smith and Tahra Uren gave her a good run for her money. Up and coming youngster, Crystal Hullet learnt a lot from her more experienced competitors and pushed her surfing to new levels.

Two younger girl surfers Kai Woolf and Zoe Smith took on the boys and very bravely entered into the U/12 boys division.
It has been a great year for the Jeffreys Bay Boardriders Club, with three surfers in the 2012 SA Team namely Emma Smith, Dylan Lightfoot and Matt Mc Gillivray.

Jose Faulkner won his division at the SA Grom Champs and the latest achievements being Ryan Lightfoot and Zoe Smith who have won their divisions in the Grom Trials earning them places in the 2012 EP Grom team.

Tahra Uren and Gina Smith have been selected in the SA Invitational team that will surf against Reunion this weekend in Durban.
