Drug busts at OR Tambo airport

The SAP’s Transnational Investigation and Crime Intelligence Units found another stash of drugs, this time cocaine weighing 4,5 kg, which were found abandoned inside the toilet of a flight that had just landed from Sao Paolo, Brazil.

The drugs were found on Saturday afternoon during a routine search by the team operating at the OR Tambo International Airport. The drugs are valued at R 1,3 million. The courier was not found.

The latest find comes just a week after the same team managed to intercept another unclaimed bag of drugs, a massive 27 kg of crystal methamphetamine valued at R 8 million, which was retrieved from a flight that had just landed from Abu Dhabi in the Middle East.

The drugs were in one of the passenger bags which was not claimed by its owner.

All of these drugs have been sent to the forensic services of the SAPS for further analysis and the police are still investigating.
