He went swimming at 6:30 pm, and swam in a zone where there are strong rip currents at present.

The Kouga Municipal lifeguards only patrolled the beach until 6 pm.

A surfer had tried to go to the man’s assistance but he disappeared under the water and was not seen again.

Despite an extensive search no sign of the man has been found and the search for his body continues.

Police trauma counsellors assisted the family of the missing man.

The Police have opened an investigation into the incident and a Police Dive Unit have joined in the search for the missing man’s body.

Swimmers are warned that there is a strong rip current at Main Beach which is pulling swimmers towards the boat launching area.

Stay between the swim zone flags on the beach and do not swim when there are no lifeguards on duty.
