Deon Verwey’s killers get 16 years in jail

On Sunday 15 June 2009 Deon Verwey (49 yrs old) was brutally attacked and murdered at his house in Maidenhair
Crescent, Jeffreys Bay.

W/O Gerald Dobela arrested the suspects for the murder of Deon Verwey

His attackers gained entrance to the premises through a window and attacked the deceased with a screw driver while he was asleep in his bed. Mr Verwey died on his way to hospital.

During the investigation, Warrant Officer Gerald Dobela from Jeffreys Bay detective branch arrested four suspects.

On 20 June 2012 in the Port Elizabeth High Court, two of the suspects were found guilty of Housebreaking and Robbery.

Isaac Matete Gontsi (36 years old) from Bizana and Petros Sihle Ngwane (27 years old)From Kwazulu Natal were both sentenced to 16 years imprisonment. The other two suspect were acquitted and discharged.

Just eight days after being acquitted, one of the two suspects Mbongeni Wonderboy Mthethi Newekazi from Ocean View Jeffreys Bay, was arrested by W/O Johnny Hayward for being in possession of a ring suspected to be stolen.

The suspect was arrested for possession of suspected stolen property and later linked to a Housebreaking case in Paradise Beach. The suspect appeared in the Humansdorp court on Monday 2nd of July 2012 on both cases.
