Dam levels continue to rise in the Kouga as the rain received over the past few weeks continues.

The Loerie and Kouga dams are already overflowing, while the Churchill Dam is over 82 % at present.

The Churchill Dam is over 82 % full.

The Mpofu Dam has breached the critical 60 % level, which means that water restrictions will be lifted soon.

Jeffreys Bay receives water from the Port Elizabeth Metro and thus has to wait for a decision from them before restrictions will be lifted.

However, the final say lies with the Department of Water Affairs and a meeting between the Metro and them is only scheduled for later this month.

The Loerie Dam is overflowing

Luckily with all the rain we have received, there is no need to water the once parched gardens in J’Bay and surrounding towns.

What is of concern in that we are totally reliant on Port Elizabeth for our water supply, which seems like an odd situation as most of the dams are in our municipal area.

The weather forcast is for heavy rains to continue today, and residents should take cre when driving as several dangerous pot holes have been reported from Paradise Beach, Koraal Street, da Gama road as well as on the road to St Francis Bay.
