The Southern Kings have had a harsh introduction back into Super Rugby and had a less than ideal build up to the toughest provincial tournament in the world.
The players have given their all and are committed to the cause. The win over the Sunwolves demonstrated this with solid defence that saw the home team claim their first victory of the season.
One of the unsung hero’s of the team is open side flanker CJ Velleman.
Cyril-John Velleman, born 24 February 1995 in Somerset East, has well and truly arrived as an open side flank. His stats are comparable with the best in Super Rugby!
Velleman captained the Grey High School first team in 2012 and 2013. He also represented Eastern Province at various youth levels, captaining the U16 side at the 2011 Grant Khomo Week, playing for the U18 side at the 2012 and 2013 Craven Week tournaments, while also captaining the side at the latter tournament held in Polokwane.
