Chokka fisherman rescued at sea near Jeffreys Bay

The NSRI St Francis Bay volunteer sea rescue duty crew were activated yesterday afternoon, following a request for medical assistance from the Chokka fishing boat Sea Shells who reported a crew member was suffering a suspected stroke.

“We launched our sea rescue craft Spirit of St Francis II accompanied by a 24/7 ambulance services paramedic and met with the vessel 5 nautical miles off-shore of Jeffreys Bay in rough sea conditions with swells between 3 and 5 meters” said Marc May, the NSRI station commander from St Francis Bay.

“On arrival on-scene the 24/7 paramedic was put aboard Sea Shells and the patient was stabilized and then transferred onto our sea rescue boat and brought to the St Francis Bay harbour and the 53 year old local male has been transported to hospital by a 24/7 ambulance in a serious but stable condition” added May
