Boks not underestimating Wales scrum

Despite Wales’ recent struggles at scrum time, the Springboks will not be underestimating their opponents in that department when they clash in the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals at Twickenham on Saturday.

Wales struggled in the scrums during their 15-6 defeat to Australia at the same ground last Saturday, with props Paul James and Samson Lee put to the sword by Sekope Kepu and Scott Sio.

The Wales scrum was also in reverse in their earlier victory over England at Twickenham and the Boks can be forgiven for expecting to have the upper hand there on Saturday.

However, Bok prop Trevor Nyakane insists they won’t be taking the Welsh scrum lightly.

“I think they’re a good scrummaging pack as well, but it depends on the day and how you approach your opponent,” Nyakane said in Bagshot on Tuesday, where the Boks have ‘inherited’ knocked-out hosts England’s Pennyhill Park training base.

“It doesn’t necessarily mean that because they got dominated by Australia, we will do the same.

All we can do is to prepare as well as we can, and come Saturday we are able to put what we can on the table and see how it goes from there.”

Saturday’s clash at Twickenham is scheduled for 17:00 (SA time).

E-Street Cafe will be broadcasting the game on their big screen and will be offering a buy one burger – get one free special.

There will also be a guess the score competition with lots of cool prizes.

Booking can be made via 042 293 0095.
