The Billabong Pro Junior 2012 surfing tournament, to be held at Seal Point, Cape St Francis, is set to take place over the weekend August 31 – September 2.
The event comprises U16 Boys, U16 Girls, U14 Boys, U12 Boys, Pro Junior Men and Pro Junior Women divisions, along with a full run of specialty events.
In the Women’s Pro Junior division, Bianca Buitendag (George) and Sarah Baum (DBN) will come in as the top seeds and the big threats, while Heidi Palmboom (DBN) and Tanika Hoffman (CT) cannot be discounted.
Local Jeffreys Bay crew Tahra Uren and Emma and Gina Smith have also spent many hours surfing and training at Seal Point and their local knowledge will be put to good use at the point break.
The Men’s Pro Junior has the likes of Slade Prestwich (DBN) and Mikey February (CT) as the main threats, but surfers like Dylan Lightfoot (JBay) and Steven Sawyer (JBay) know the waves at Seal Point really well, and could easily turn the tables on their competitors and clean up at the event as well.
August and September are good months for surf in the Eastern Cape and there is a strong chance that there will be excellent waves at Seal Point, one of the most consistent waves around. Billabong South Africa Marketing Manager Chad D’Arcy is looking forward to the event. “It’s great to have this contest in the Eastern Cape and I can’t imagine a better set-up than that at Seal Point,” said D’Arcy. “We have the best junior surfers in the country entered into the tournament and we’re stoked to be associated with junior surfing in this way.”
