Residents of Jeffreys Bay will be joining a nationwide march on 19 May against crime in South Africa.

The march will start at 12 PM in the car park opposite Spur on the beach front. At 1 PM the protestors will begin to move towards the Police Station along Da Gama Road and hand over the memorandum.

Local organizer Dean Gilbert said he is hoping everyone who joins the march will wear red tops and that local businesses will close for an hour to make sure the march is well supported.

“Jeffreys Bay is experiencing the crime wave that is sweeping South Africa and we need to take a stand against the criminals in our town”, said Gilbert. “The national day of protest against crime is being organized by Solidarity and about 150 000 people country wide are expected to take part.

The Solidarity Movement wants to hand over memorandums to as many of the 1 100 police stations in South Africa as possible. In these memorandums, an appeal will be made to the police and communities to create joint safety structures across South Africa.
